During a study visit to Portugal, the team from the Centralized Purchasing Operator (CPO) held a working meeting with representatives of SPMS – Shared Services of the Ministry of Health, led by Nuno Costa.
During this meeting, an advanced model of centralized procurement in healthcare was presented, where technology, data, and standardization are at the core of the system.
Among the most important elements highlighted were:
1- The use of artificial intelligence to support processes and decision-making
2- A national database for medicines and medical devices, integrated with procurement
3- Standardized electronic catalogs for fast and transparent purchasing
4- Real-time monitoring of processes and contracts
5- Data analysis to increase efficiency and control
This model clearly demonstrates that modern procurement is not just a procedure, but an integrated system that ensures transparency, efficiency, and quality in the use of public funds.
🤝 This visit reinforces CPO’s commitment to building an increasingly standardized, digitalized, and data-driven procurement system. CPO continues its transformation toward European best practices, in service of institutions and citizens.
