The Centralized Procurement Operator (CPO) participated in an international workshop organized by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development in Poland, focused on the implementation of sustainability (ESG) criteria in public procurement, one of the key priorities in the reform of this sector at both European and broader international level.
During this event, the CPO was presented as a success story in integrating environmental and social criteria into public procurement procedures in Albania. The Head of the institution, Ms. Arlinda Pogaj, together with other CPO representatives, shared concrete experience on how sustainability standards have been integrated into tender documents, technical specifications, and evaluation criteria, aiming not only to improve efficiency in the use of public funds but also to generate positive environmental and social impact.
The discussions focused on the importance of green and social procurement as a key instrument for sustainable development, as well as the practical challenges related to the implementation of these criteria in different countries. The workshop served as a valuable platform for exchanging experiences and international best practices, with participation from representatives of Poland, Lithuania, and Ukraine.
Special attention was also given to procurement in emergency and wartime conditions, where representatives of Ukraine shared the challenges and mechanisms used to ensure continuity of public supply and transparency in procedures, despite extraordinary circumstances.
The CPO’s participation in this workshop reflects the institution’s ongoing commitment to aligning public procurement practices in Albania with the most advanced international standards, strengthening transparency, competition, and accountability in this sector.
